Why TMJ, Pain & Sleep Issues Are Often Connected
The jaw, airway, muscles, and nervous system work together. When jaw alignment or muscle function is disrupted, it can contribute to airway narrowing, poor sleep quality, headaches, and chronic pain. Likewise, sleep disruption can increase muscle tension and worsen TMJ symptoms—creating a cycle of discomfort and fatigue.
A comprehensive evaluation helps determine whether your symptoms share a common origin and how best to treat them. Our Diagnostic Process: Your first visit focuses on understanding the full picture. Evaluation may include medical & dental history review, Jaw movement & joint health assessment, Bite alignment & tooth wear analysis, Breathing & sleep screening etc. Additional imaging or testing may be recommended for accuracy before treatment begins.

Meet Dr. Lara Perel-Panar
A Whole-Person Approach to TMJ & Sleep Therapy
Dr. Lara Perel-Panar has had a passion for dentistry since early childhood and is now living out that dream practicing in the heart of Vancouver. She earned her dental degree in 2017 from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC and brings a modern, science-based approach to patient care.
Dr. Lara believes dentistry goes far beyond teeth alone. She takes a whole-person approach, recognizing the close connection between oral health, the nervous system, breathing, and overall wellness. This philosophy is especially important in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders, chronic facial pain, and sleep-related breathing issues.
She practices biomimetic dentistry, using advanced materials and techniques designed to closely mimic the natural structure and function of healthy teeth. This conservative approach helps preserve tooth structure while supporting long-term comfort and function.
Dr. Lara’s training is airway-focused, meaning every patient is evaluated for breathing patterns, tongue posture, and jaw position. She has trained with—and continues to be mentored by—Dr. Theodore Belfor and other world-renowned clinicians in TMJ, airway, and pain-focused dentistry. This allows her to help patients improve not only their dental health, but also sleep quality, comfort, and overall quality of life. Schedule a TMJ & Sleep consultation today.

There was also another staff member (a woman) who was so kind during my intake but I didn't get her name - thank you! I have lived with TMJ for many years and did not know that I could be without pain. During this treatment journey, the staff were encouraging, helpful and always willing to explain.
